"We believe in a theater from below, from the community and for the community. Where the performance becomes the occasion to create collective experiences, to remember and confirm bonds of friendship, companionship and solidarity, in times where living within society is largely based on fear and alienation... And to tell our stories with persistence so that our speech is not extinguished, nor crushed by the dominant narratives"...

Restart Theater Athens

With over a decade of experience in community theatre, we have been facilitating annual workshops for non-actors since 2010, engaging more than 400 men, women, and young people in over 20 different community productions and original performances. Throughout this journey, we have honed a unique and holistic approach to theatre-making that has been shaped through continuous experimentation, feedback, and evaluation.

Our method is rooted in the belief that theatre is not just a performance but a transformative process that empowers participants both individually and collectively. Over the years, we’ve learned the importance of creating a safe, inclusive space where participants can express themselves freely and authentically, regardless of their experience level. By encouraging personal exploration and fostering a deep sense of trust and community, we ensure that every voice is heard, valued and included.

We are committed to a co-creative process that is driven by the participants themselves. Rather than imposing our own ideas or visions, we focus on amplifying the voices of those involved, helping them shape their stories, life experiences and concerns into cohesive and empowering performances. This approach allows the group to collaborate meaningfully, turning their collective creativity into something truly unique and impactful.

Through trial and error, and through careful attention to the needs and dynamics of each group, we’ve developed a flexible, adaptable framework that meets the diverse needs of our participants. Our workshops go beyond teaching acting techniques or theatre production skills; they are a transformative experience that encourages personal growth, emotional exploration, and the development of strong, lasting connections between participants.

At the heart of our work is the belief that theatre is a powerful tool for personal and social change. We’re proud of the unique methodology we’ve cultivated over the years, and the transformative impact it continues to have on those who take part in our community workshops, productions and activities.
